Whether you're a writer, a reader, or (very likely) both, KHG is offering classes to scratch your literary itch.
All classes are BYOB: bring your own book. Any format is fine. A paper copy will allow for easy notetaking and bookmarking, but ebooks and audiobooks are fine.

Summer School 2026
This summer, we're going to tackle A Place of Greater Safety by Hilary Mantel. This historical novel is immersive and intense — a great way to regain your ability to focus on a long book and to build a literary community over the summer.
Basic Info
- July 1 – August 25, 2026
- Participation will be capped at 40 readers
- $50 per person
- About 100 pages of reading per week, or 15-20 pages per day
- Participants have the option to write two papers for feedback from KHG
- All meetings will take place weekly via Zoom
Draft Syllabus
- July 7: All of Part 1 plus Part 2 through Chapter 3
- July 14: Finish Part 2 (Storming of the Bastille!)
- July 21: Through Part 3 Chapter 3
- Optional: Turn in a 1000-word close read of any passage from Book 1 or 2 by July 25 for feedback
- July 28: Through Part 4 Chapter 4
- August 4: Through Part 5 Chapter 3
- August 11: Through Part 5 Chapter 9
- August 18: Through Part 5 Chapter 12
- August 25: Finish reading
- Optional: Turn in a 3000-word essay on any theme in the novel by August 1 for feedback
Reading the Year
Over a series of 4-week seminars, we'll read all four books in Ali Smith's Seasonal Quartet. The schedule is:
- Autumn — September 22 – October 20, 2026
- Winter — December 21 – January 18, 2027
- Spring — March 20 – April 17, 2027
- Summer — June 21 – July 18, 2027
